Top Tips To Help Secure Your Dream Fashion Role

First impressions count! Especially in job interviews. Whether you’re stepping into the retail space for the first time, aiming for a leadership role or even interviewing as a CEO, the way you present yourself can make all the difference. Here are top tips to help you stand out and secure your dream job.

1. Dress the Part

Your attire should reflect the company culture while still being professional. Research the brand, look in store, understand what the staff are wearing, think about the role you are interviewing for. Be yourself, be comfortable!

2. Research the brand!

Show your interest in the brand by researching the company, pop into the store and do a mystery shop, try on their product and really get an understanding for their values!

Understanding the business will help you tailor your answers and demonstrate how you align with their goals.

3. Practice, practice, practice

Prepare for the interview by practicing questions! Think about situational and behavioural questions, what is your selling style, leadership style and how do you handle confronting situations. Use your past experiences to help you answer questions. Practice makes perfect,

4. Body language is key

Non-verbal cues really help how you are perceived in an interview. Maintaining eye contact is so important! Practice this with your family and friends if this is something you struggle with, don’t cross your arms – this can promote negative body language. Make sure you have strong posture, shake your interviewees hand and don’t forget to smile!

5. Be on time

Arriving on time is crucial. Plan your journey in advance and aim to be at the location at least 10-15 minutes early. If it’s a virtual interview, test your technology ahead of time to avoid last-minute issues. If you are using your phone for the virtual interview, ensure it is fully charged and resting against an object, we don’t want to see you holding the phone!

6. Write down your key achievements!

Highlight your skills and experiences with specific examples. Discuss how your past work has contributed to team success, increased efficiency, or solved problems. Think about success stories – have you had team members take on bigger roles, have you had increased sales and productivity? Have you implemented training guidelines? All of these are amazing achievements, and you should be proud to speak about them!

7. Ask Insightful Questions

Interviews work two ways! Prepare questions about the role, team dynamics, or company culture. This helps to show your interest and also supports your thought process on how this role aligns with your values.

Presenting yourself well in an interview is about preparation, confidence, and being genuine! These tips will help you land that dream role in fashion!
