Get To Know Team TM: Lucy

Lucy is our Recruitment Director who Joined us in November 2022. Since then Lucy has gone on to make a name for herself in the Recruitment game and has grown with the business stepping up to opportunities that came her way - contributing to so many successfully placed Candidates and happy Clients. We asked Lucy some fun questions to get to know her a little better!

Tell us about your career background?

I started working when I was 13! I have always loved work – I would work after school 2 hours every night and most weekends for 9 hours each day! I was hooked – I started at a hardware store in my local area and worked there until I was 20.

I never studied and went full-time when I finished school. I decided I wanted to work in Fashion and applied for over 100 Christmas casual roles until finally someone gave me a chance!

I took my first Fashion role with Australian Designer Thurley, and I said yes to every opportunity, every shift and went above and beyond – I’d felt that I had found my calling.

When the ASM became vacant they offered me the role and I was with the company for over 2 years before moving to Alannah Hill as Store Manager – I stayed with AH for over 3 years before moving to Glasson’s as Store Manager.

At Glasson’s I took every opportunity presented to me, I worked hard, I came in early, stayed back late and I knew I wanted to be a state manager – I applied for every role that came up and I took on feedback and sought out feedback from my managers.

I progressed organically from Store Manager to Training Manager, and I moved to NSW to become State Manager and then back to VIC for State and again right back to NSW to become Senior State Manager in 2019.

I worked for Glasson’s for over 9 years before I had my Son, Rocky and through pure chance met Ange on LinkedIn about another retail role and ended up working in recruitment at The Talent Mill where I have progressed from Recruitment Partner to Recruitment Manager and now my current role as Recruitment Director.

What is your most valued career achievement?

I have a few! Each achievement was at a different time in my career – if I think back to when I first started in retail, I won Manager of the year for 3 years in a row! This was SO exciting to me at the time, and I really thought it was the biggest achievement ever.

My current role is my most valued achievement as I have worked really hard and have proved to myself that I am able to still be strong at work and at home.

What is your go to work playlist to get you through the day?

Sorry to say this but I hate playing music and listening to it whilst I work! I must be completely focused! But one thing I can’t go without is a weak skinny latte and a giant bottle of water.

What about you makes you great at your job?

I give everything a go – I don’t need a huge amount of detail to be able to understand something. My learning and working style are quite fast paced so working in recruitment is great for me as there is so many moving parts

What is your idea of success?

Being happy and healthy – having happy Children is successful to me.

Tell us 3 things that are most important to you!

  • My kids – Rocky, Lola and my stepsons Charlie and Zander!

  • Being active and healthy

  • Enjoying my work

What brands are you loving right now?

I am loving witchery actually! I love their rebrand, the price point is good, and the quality and fabrics are amazing. Super impressed.

Tell us something we would never guess about you?

I am a HUGE sports fan – particularly Collingwood for AFL. But I love all sports, cricket, NRL, AFL, Kayo is the most watched tv app in our house.

Describe your perfect day.

Waking up at 7am, when every child has slept through the night with a coffee waiting for me before I head off to a STRONG class and then a walk at Frankston Beach with my family and doggy.

Followed by a day of shopping at Chadstone and dinner at Oriental Tea House on Chapel (no children included haha)

If you could have anyone in the world, be your dinner guest, who would it be?

Craige Mcrae – Collingwood Coach. He seems so inspiring!

Give us a career tip!

Always say yes and take every opportunity! If you want growth, you MUST out in the work. Be 1% better everyday and always think about your team – someone said to me once, if your team is better than you – you are doing the best job possible.

I had an amazing experience with Lucy. She helped me from start to finish and was wonderful with communicating and making sure I was fully prepped for interviews. She made sure I knew what to expect, so I had a full understanding of the job. She was very supportive and gave me constant updates.
Thanks heaps, Lucy!
