A Day In The Life Of A Recruiter.

If you have met an Agency Recruiter, they will tell you no two days are the same! If you thrive on variety – then recruitment is a wild mix of strategic planning, relationship building and administrative tasks – and all balls need to be juggled effectively. Our day can be impacted by many things, how many roles you are working on, what stage each process is at or how urgent each role is.  I have been recruiting for over 15 years and have my routine downpat – ensuring I get the most out of my day and not getting sucked into what I affectionately call the time vortex! I schedule my week and colour block my calendar to ensure I am giving equal time to the roles I am working on alongside of any projects and leading our talented team of Recruitment Partners.

So, what does a typical day in the life of a Recruiter (or Ange) look like? Let me show you!

Pre work:

  • 5:30am is my wake-up call, Yes, I am one of those people! (I’m sorry but it makes me productive!)  My day starts with a quick coffee before heading to the gym for a HIIT session. Then I head off for a walk or jog with my dog Frank, before heading back home to get ready for work. I love this time of the morning to get clear on my day ahead.

 8am desk time!

  • My sneaky geeky past time is playing wordle before I start work to get my brain into gear!

  • I usually have breakfast while checking my emails and messages on LinkedIn – my to do list is written the night before but checking this early can shift some priorities or the timeline of my day.

  • An hour of candidate and client check in call’s this could be for any reasons – post interview feedback with both clients and candidates, update on status of roles with clients, offer presentation and negotiation or checking in after a certain period in their role with a candidate to ensure they are settling in well, and posting on LinkedIn to highlight the roles we are working on currently.

  • Marketing meeting – we have a regular marketing meeting amongst the leadership team where we review our marketing strategy – look at what’s working, what isn’t and review our marketing calendar to ensure this is brand aligned

  • The next couple of hours are for scheduling client interviews with candidates, posting ads on our selected job boards for new vacancies, reference checking, or submitting shortlists to clients of candidates that we have resourced for vacancies

 Post lunch:

The afternoon is mainly spent on candidate resourcing, registrations, and shortlisting – we use a variety of shortlisting methods to source the best candidates in the industry – whether searching our database, creating a project on LinkedIn, utilising our referral program or reviewing any paid ads. This time is what truly tests your ability to prioritise and be effective because time can go by in a flash!

Final countdown:

The last hour is wrapping up – checking in with candidates to make sure they are prepared for interviews, creating the to do list for the next day, updating clients on progress and expected shortlists, and checking in with the team! We are big on celebrating wins so there is lots of messages flying back and forth through out the day that keeps us all connected!

In the midst of all of this – we often get some unexpected situations that crop up too – affectionately we might have to put out a couple of fires also, so our ability to remain flexible and respond as needed is critical!

So that my friends is a day in the life of a Recruiter! Its such an exciting and privileged role that brings a tonne of variety and people connections – just how I like it!
